At Mountain Homes Youth Ranch our staff are skilled and experienced in helping youth with diagnosis of ADHD/ADD. Youth who are often distracted in a school and classroom environment, are able to focus their abundant energies on outdoor skills that are fun, challenging, and very rewarding when accomplished. Students learn to be organized and efficient in order to accomplish the many tasks that are placed before them each week . Student progress in the program is contingent upon each student completing all the program goals, skills, assignments, and tasks in each weekly period. Students receive positive reinforcement from staff, their environment, and most important from their own achievements, as they complete difficult program goals on an hourly, daily, and weekly schedule. Program focus is placed on the student's accomplishments, and positive self-esteem is built through the hard work of each individual student, and not through exaggerated false praise. Skills developed in the program are applicable and adaptable to challenges the student will face at home, in school, and in society as they graduate the program. Our highly structured environment and program focus helps students stay on task and moving forward in the program continually. Mountain Homes has a low staff to student ratio to assure that students receive the positive reinforcement they require to be able to work their way through behavioral issues, and successfly complete a challenging wilderness program. Students are placed in small family units and learn to deal positively with peers and staff. Students who are working on academic credit receive one on one tutoring, instruction, and follow up from our educational director. The wilderness setting serves as a great classroom setting that provides students an opportunity to thrive rather than feel confined in a more traditional classroom.
